About Hiyu

Hiyu is where I explore the unseen work of internal communication — how organisations speak to themselves, and how that shapes culture, clarity, and connection.

It started as a consultancy. These days, it’s a mix of writing, strategy, and support for organisations who care about how work feels on the inside.

The world of work has changed. Leaders are expected to do more with less. Trust is harder to earn. And employees expect more than just a payslip - they want meaning, clarity, and a sense of belonging.

I work with organisations, teams and individuals to improve internal communication, shape employee experience, and help leaders connect with purpose in a way that actually lands.

That might mean:

  • Defining tone of voice or leadership messaging

  • Creating communication strategies that stick

  • Building alignment around purpose, vision and values

  • Or simply making complex change easier to understand

It’s not about glossy campaigns. It’s about the lived experience of work.

About Me

I’m Rich Baker – writer, strategist and long-time internal comms obsessive. I’ve spent over 20 years in internal communication, employee engagement and culture change. I’ve led UK and European communications at Amazon, driven transformation at Jaguar Land Rover, and supported rail, energy, tech and non-profits through complex change.

I’ve been awarded Communicator of the Year, a Fellow of the Institute of Internal Communication, and a chartered member of the CIPR and CIPD. But what matters most to me is the work itself - and whether it makes people feel more connected, more informed, and more able to do their best work.

Want to work together?

I occasionally take on consulting projects that align with my thinking and experience. If you’re looking for a strategic partner who’ll help you find clarity — and make it land — get in touch.

How I work

The best internal communication is clear, considered, and quietly powerful.

Here’s what matters to me in the work:

  • Clarity over noise. Not everything needs to be said. But what is said should land.

  • Trust over polish. Communication isn’t a performance. It’s a relationship.

  • Purpose over performance metrics. When people know why it matters, the rest follows.

  • Respect for people’s time. No jargon. No waffle. Just good, useful communication.

If that resonates, we’ll probably work well together.
